The time has come to defeat YouTube in its own game. Some third-party developers have the right combination of cheats and tricks to make YouTube better than the official experience. No more restrictions, no more wasted time!
For a long time now, developers have been creating sites and extensions to tweak YouTube so that you can fix some of its common troubles. Some others focus on making YouTube more fun and light-hearted than it was a year ago.
Here are some applications that use smart ideas for that better YouTube experience.
Use captions to quickly browse through videos, discreetly remove sponsored segments, and even watch the best videos from a decade ago.
YouTube Cheats to Break Restrictions and Make YouTube Fun Again
1) YTCutter (Web):
– Download a specific part of the video, GIF or audio format
YTCutter is a single tool with many purposes. This comes in handy when you don’t want to download a flower YouTube video, and only a short clip needs to be downloaded. So you can select this part and download it.
This web app is user-friendly and easy too. Copy-paste the URL from YouTube here and it will start playing immediately. When you want to start the clip, click Start, and click End to finish trimming. You can adjust the timestamp if you want. You’ll see how many seconds the clip is, and a handy Preview button lets you check it before downloading.
The trimmed clips can be downloaded in video file (MP4), GIF file or audio file (MP3) format. The MP4 file will download at the resolution in which you watch the video, so choose High-Definition beforehand if you want.
Best of all, YTCutter is one of the easiest and smartest third party YouTube apps.
2) YouTube Caption (Web):
– Get full text of closed captions
Many YouTube videos have closed captions, whether created by the uploader or auto-generated by YouTube. YouTube Caption extracts these redeemable text, with built-in timestamps.
It only works with videos that have captions. Copy-paste the video link in the box and click on the search icon. After a few seconds, you will get a preview of the video with the full caption listed below.
This is a great way to scrub through a long video, such as a TED Talk or a presentation. Not only this, if you are learning something through a YouTube lecture, this tool gives you the complete text of what the teacher said. This is the easiest way to make a note.
While you are reading, if at any point it appears that the video is supporting the text, click on that line to jump directly to that point in the video. If you are a fast reader, you can get to the video much faster using YouTube Caption instead of watching the entire clip.
3) YouTube Rabbit Hole (Chrome):
– Disable the productions for YouTube
A friend of yours sends you a link to a YouTube video. You click it and start watching. And the automated suggestion for the next video begins. The sidebar recommends such things that you can enjoy. A commenter says something bad and teases you. YouTube is designed to sync time. This extension wants to stop it.
YouTube attacks multiple destinations on the Rabbit Hole video streaming site. It empties suggested content, hides comments and livestream chats, and also disables the suggestion of You might also like at the end of the video. Instead of all this, you see all the cute bunnies.
The extension also ensures that you can visit the homepage without getting distracted from where the trending and membership pages will go. This simplifies the navigation drawer so that you can only see what you want to see. And it also removes banner-style advertisements.
In the end, only you, video and search box are left. You can check the channels that you have subscribed to, but forget about anything else.

4) SponsorBlock (Chrome, Firefox):
– Automatically Sponsored Segment Skip
Videos have YouTube ad-blockers to skip annoying latency, or you can use YouTube Premium. But still you can’t skip the parts of the video where the producers speak in a sponsor advertisement. till now…
SponsorBlock is a crowdfunded extension that automatically skips those “this video is sponsored by…” parts. Try it out, it’s shocking how well it works on popular channels.
Most of these sponsors are part of bundles for a large set of channels, so once the original idea is told a little later, it works in other videos as well. It is useful as a Skip Intro feature of Netflix and Amazon Prime.
This add-on is completely open source. It uses a combination of algorithms and an upvote / downvote system. As a user, you don’t have to worry about it.
When you are watching a video, the extension will alert you if you skip sponsorship. You can “unskip” it and see ads, report it, or do nothing to register the skip as an upvote. If you come across a sponsored segment that is not skipped, tap on the extension icon and mark it to help other users.
5) YouTube Decade (Web):
– The biggest video of the same day 10 years ago
Here is a little experiment that is a much better way to browse YouTube than the default overload homepage. Developer Bennett Feely created a website that shows the most popular videos among videos uploaded to this day ten years ago.
Every day, YouTube Decade updates with eight new videos. The categories include music, comedy, film and animation, entertainment, news and politics, sports, pets and animals and gaming.
Only 8 videos, no information overload! If you are checking on November 04, 2019, the videos here will be selected from the videos uploaded on November 04, 2009.
You can go back once a day and browse through the site. This is great because there will be times when videos are from regional YouTube pics, so you may not even know the language. But given their popularity, they are usually worth watching.
YouTube Decade can be a fun homepage to set on your browser, which will give you a little time capsule when you start your day.
