New Delhi: BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has said that the domestic cricket season will start from Ranji Trophy on January 1. Ganguly said, “We discussed domestic cricket for a long time and we have decided to start the tournament from January 1, 2021, possibly.” When asked if the season would be shortened, the former Indian captain said that the board would not be able to organize all domestic tournaments for practical purposes.

Ganguly indicated that the BCCI is keeping an eye on the January-March window for the Ranji Trophy. He said, ‘We will definitely have a full season of Ranji Trophy. But it will probably not be possible to organize all the tournaments.

To reduce travel, matches are likely to be held in four groups (A, B, C and Plate) in four different centers. For example, Puducherry can host all Plate Group matches.

A BCI official said, “Puducherry has six grounds and has offered to host. It can host Plate Group matches while other groups can play at three different centers. Its main purpose is to reduce the travel of players. ”

The official said, “Bengaluru also has a lot of grounds so it can be an option and another option can be Dharamshala where Bilaspur and Nadaun are close to it.” With the assurance of Ganguly, things got cleared for the preparation of the season for the state associations. Kovid-19 is having an impact on most parts of the country and most of the players are training themselves. Earlier this week, Uttarakhand became the first team to train under one roof.

The BCCI president also assured that junior cricket and women’s tournament will be held between March and April. He said, ‘We have detailed plans for our age group and women’s cricket. We will start with Ranji Trophy and then we will do other tournaments between March and April. He also said that the Indian team will be allowed to train during the quarantine period in Australia.
