Being close to the Gandhi family, Ahmed Patel was sidelined under Rao's rule

Ahmed Patel was such a Congress leader who always remained loyal to the Gandhi family. After starting the political journey during the era of Indira Gandhi, she had a deep bond with Rajiv Gandhi and then it continued during Sonia Gandhi. But there came a time in his political career when he was sidelined in the Congress party.

After the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi, when the Congress government headed by Narasimha Rao formed at the Center, Ahmed Patel was sidelined even after being close to the Gandhi family. Ahmed Patel was removed from almost all posts except the membership of the Congress Working Committee (CWC).

It is believed that during the era of Narasimha Rao, the influence of the Gandhi family was slightly reduced and due to this time it was difficult for the family loyalists and close ones. But after being sidelined for some time, the time changed and again he became an actor at the top level of the party.

When Patel became homeless

Like Indira and Rajiv Gandhi, the then Prime Minister Narasimha Rao offered Ahmed Patel a ministerial position, but he turned it down. Patel then lost the Lok Sabha elections from Gujarat and due to this, he started getting notices for vacating government house.

Then his friend and then Congress leader Najma Heptulla explored many options for government accommodation for him, but for this it needed to get approval from Narasimha Rao government. He thanked Najma Heptulla for his efforts, but did not accept help. It is said that if he had taken help from Najma, it would have meant taking help from Narasimha Rao. Which he did not want at all.
