Approximately four and a half hundred years ago, Goswami Tulsidas wrote describing the uniqueness of Mother Ganga, that if a person goes to the Ganges and takes a bath, it will save millions of generations. The mere sight of the waves of the Ganges lays the foundation for man to reside in Vishnu-lok. After nearly three hundred years of Tulsidas, the famous poet Keshav says –
how many ways the name goes
, greeted the world, and when the arrow went, how many stars, how many ways do the waves
have their nature
O Bhagirathi, we are filled with faults that serve it.
That is, just by remembering the name of Ganga, one gets freedom. The one who goes to the shore and salutes them, becomes the officer of residence in Devaloka. Keshav describes the nature of Ganga and says that Ganga is the universal mother. She graciously graces everyone without seeing the virtue of her children.
Presently, we have started calling Ganga as river, but in our scriptures, Ganga has been called as Bhagwati. From the Puranas to the Goswami Tulsidas and their later seekers, Ganga has also accepted the Ganges as the Brahma Dravida. A few years ago, the Ganges was declared a national river, but I do not agree with it, because the river Ganges is not Bhagwati. Even if we assume that the Ganges is a river, their respect should be the same as that of a living savior. Not only I am saying this, but the Government of Uttarakhand has also considered Gangaji as the ‘Living Diet’, the living goddess. It is not just a matter of saving them as a river. They also need to be protected and protected according to their dignity. Our country is a country with diverse religions, cultures and beliefs, yet everyone has the same faith in the Ganges. None of our auspicious work is edited without Ganga. Ganga is our national unity, Are a means of integrity. Ganga is the basis of our cultural heritage.
40 percent of the country’s population depends on the Ganges. In a distance of 2,525 km between Gangotri to Gangasagar, there are 116 cities with a population ranging from one lakh to 30 lakhs. Mother Ganga is practicable in the eyes of those who identify Ganga in the true sense. Ganges have never been a means. At present, Ganga-ji has been accepted as an instrument and efforts are being made to preserve and protect them as a means.
Ever since the corona has resulted in a lockdown, it has been propagated that the Ganges-water has been purified, while scientific trials conducted by the Sankat Mochan Foundation are pointing to another side. There are two main reasons why Ganga is polluted – one is industrial wastewater and the other is sewage coming out of the cities along the Ganges. It is not that the Ganges is polluted everywhere in the 2,525 km radius. Many strict rules have been made to ensure that industrial wastewater does not fall into the Ganges without treatment. Even there is a provision to shut down the industrial unit which does not follow the rules, but those rules are not being followed due to the force of money power. An even more serious cause is sewage and continues to drain. If I talk about Banaras, then only in Banaras, three and a half MLD sewage is getting daily in the Ganges. Benares does not have industrial units like Kanpur, But there are dangerous signs in the Ganges water here. In every report that pollution in the Ganges-water is reduced, only dissolve oxygen is being talked about. The reason for increasing dissolved oxygen is that these days neither there is excess of bathers in the Ganges nor the motorboat is operating. Due to both these reasons, the soil and sand present in the Ganges is not dissolving the Ganges water repeatedly by dissolving it, due to which the rays of the sun are going deeper into the water and the process of photosynthesis is increasing. There is no discussion about fecal coliform bacteria. Even after not having an industrial unit in Kashi, the fecal coliform count has increased by one and a half times the normal days. This is a very serious and serious sign. Due to this, the rays of the sun are going deeper into the water and the process of photosynthesis is increasing. At the same time there is no discussion about fecal coliform bacteria. Even after not having an industrial unit in Kashi, the fecal coliform count has increased by one and a half times the normal days. This is a very serious and serious sign.
If you want to save the Ganges in future, then the sewage in the Ganges will have to be prevented from going under any situation. In the sewerage treatment plant built along the Ganges, there is no arrangement to kill the coliform bacteria in the sewage treatment system. In the Ganga Action Plan started in the year 1986, it was decided that even after treating sewage, it is not to be left in the Ganges, but to use it in other works including agriculture. Unfortunately neither could it be done then nor is it being done now. The treated sewage is still being dumped in the Ganges itself. If we want our relationship with the Ganges to remain the same as before, it will remain spiritually and physically beneficial for us as before, then the connection between Ganga and sewage will have to be completely broken. We need to stop treating Ganga as a ‘dustbine’ which drains the sewage.
The Ganges has the unique ability to purify itself. Note that such a capability is not present in any other stream of the world, but this process can continue even if the avidity of the Ganges will be prevented from being affected. The obstruction of the Ganga’s avidity and the degradation of sewage are the two biggest obstacles in its path of pollution-free.
