Karachi: Safdar Awan, the husband of Pakistan Muslim League-N leader Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has been arrested by the police from the hotel where they were staying. The arrests came just hours after PML-N Vice-President Maryam took a jibe against Prime Minister Imran Khan and his PTI government during Pakistan’s 11 opposition parties’ demonstration of the Alliance People’s Democratic Movement (PDM) . Thousands of people participated in this demonstration under the banner of PDM. Maryam wrote in a tweet on Monday, “I was staying in Karachi, the police broke the door of my hotel room and arrested Captain Sarfar.” However, no information has been officially given by the police regarding this arrest so far.
It is also not clear whether Safdar’s arrest was filed on Sunday by the Government representative of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in connection with the FIR lodged against the Miriam, Safdar Awam and ‘200 of his operatives’ at the Brigade Police Station Has been. It was said in the FIR that Maryam, Safdar and their ‘henchmen’ have violated the sanctity of the tomb of Quaid-e-Azam. Maryam, who was leaving Bagh-e-Jinnah, stopped at the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam. During this time, retired Captain Safar had raised the PML-N slogan ‘Respect for votes’ and asked people to support him.
Representatives of Pakistan’s Imran government had criticized the move and called it an insult to the sanctity of the tomb. According to Geo News, the representatives of the government had approached the police in this matter and asked to take action against the participants in this activity. Fawad Chaudhary, Minister of Science and Technology of the Imran Government, had criticized Safdar and said that both Safdar and Maryam should apologize in this matter.
