The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the Aadhaar card-issuing body, suspended Pankaj Goyal on bribery charges with immediate effect. Goyal is working as an assistant director in the authority’s regional office in Delhi. Pankaj Kumar, chief executive officer of the Unique Identification Authority of India, issued orders in this regard.
According to the order, due to the criminal case against Goyal, he is suspended from the post of Assistant Director General with immediate effect. This suspension will continue till the investigation against him continues.
Four militants were killed in two separate encounters with security forces in Shopian and Pulwama districts of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, raising the number of militants killed in two operations to five. This information was given by the army. A police official said that after receiving information about the presence of terrorists in the area, security forces laid siege to Melhura in Jainapora area of Shopian and started a search operation. He said that the search operation turned into an encounter after the militants opened fire on the security forces.
An army official said that a terrorist was killed in the initial shootout between the two sides yesterday evening, while a terrorist was killed on Tuesday morning. They said an ammunition, including an AK rifle and a pistol, were recovered from the encounter site. He said that efforts are being made to ascertain the identity of the slain terrorists. In another operation in Harkipora area of Pulwama district, security forces killed three terrorists.
The officer said that three weapons have been recovered from the site of the encounter. The official said that along with the identity of the slain terrorists, efforts are also being made to find out which terrorist group they were associated with.
